what is stop-motion animation ?
Stop motion animation is a technique used in animation to bring static object to life on screen. This is done by moving an object in increments while filming a frame per increment. when all frames are played in sequence it shows movent. Clay figures, puppets and other materials can be used for stop-motion animation.
Stop-motion animation is almost as old as film. Film makers needed a way to animate objects on screen
and the technique was devised. The first instance of its usage is credited to J. Stuart Blackton and
Albert E. Smith for bringing a toy circus to life in Humpty Dumpty Circus (1897).
Notable feature-length films all done in stop motion animation and released in the "CGI boom era" are:
*Tim Burton's Corpse Bride (2005)
*Chicken Run (2000)
*Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
*Coraline (2009)

Who were the early pioneers ?
"The Humpty Dumpty Circus" (1898) and in "Fun in a Bakery" (1908) are early examples of stop motion films and techniques. In 1907
"The Haunted Hotel" was very successful movie with cinema audience of the time. In 1912 "Modelling Extraordinary", one of the first clay
animation movies using stop motion movies using stop motion was released to great critical acclaim.
first female stop motion animator
In 1916, Helena Smith Dayton, began experimenting with clay stop motion. she released her first film in 1917, Romeo and Juliet. December of 1916
brought the first of Willie Hopkin's 54 episodes of "Miracles in Mud" to the big screen.
why is frame rate important ?
Animation can help make a site feel faster and responsive, but animation can also. make a site feel. slower and janky if. notion correctly.
Responsive user. interfaces have a frame rate of 60 frames per second (fps).
which animation productions have won awards such as. Oscars ?
isle of dogs - Wes Anderson

claymation
I think this technique. of stop-motion would be good. for my project because clay can be used. to tell stories and show different. emotions. in such a successful way, Aardman are the champions of claymation I think the way they are able to give Gromit so many different and effective emotion by just the use of his eyebrow. By doing this it makes Gromit such an unforgettable and loved character. I think because can do this so effectively it would be successful for my piece, because I want it to feel meaningful to the audience and as though they are able to feel a certain emotion after. they have watch it. The different characters In my piece I want them. to. show different powerful emotion, The way I can do this. is thorough their facial expression, clay would be great for this as it is very easy to change the. character's. emotion though the clay. figure drawing
I think this technique may also be good for my animation as. it can be so expressive and can look so effective when telling a story which is would I am aiming for, the images move very fast so it looks as though or you wouldn't think it is stop motion animation, I like. this. another thing I like about this technique is that although the drawings are so simple it can look so effective and meaningful, I like the idea that it you can be so simple but you are able to tell a good story. Because I want my piece to come across really powerful, I. feel this could be a good technique to use I also feel that I can communicate meaning with just the drawing, I think this could work with for the characters in my animation. Paper
This technique is purely beautiful, In the way you can tell such a beautiful story with just paper is amazing, although you are not able to see any facial expression. only the outline of the figures but yet. it can show such emotion leading to. telling a beautiful story is amazing. I think technique would be. great for my animation because the story I. want to show is so meaningful paper would be great for this. |

Planning
location or set
I will be filming my animation in a studio, I'm going to be using different backgrounds for my animation piece, the different backgrounds will portray different messages. Firstly I will be using a black background to show darkness, I will be then be using a greenscreen the image that the greenscreen will show will be of a gym/dance centre this is to show the different oppournities that have been giving to criminals recovering from crimes such as knife crime. In the third scene the background will be changed to a black background as it was in the first scene this will introduce the second scheme, then in the fourth scene it will change back once again to a greenscreen this time the image that will show will be a city, I have chosen this because knife crime happens a lot in towns and cities.
The materials I will use
The materials I will use will be clay, I have decided to use clay because, it can be so expressive and is able to communicate powerful and meaningful messages. The puppets will be made out of clay and their clothing will be made out of different materials. I will be using a piece of green material for the greenscreen and a piece of black card for the black background, although the materials I will be using will be cheap I feel they will be effective. I will be using a gorilla tripod for this project, the gorilla tripod will be good for this because you are able to move this tripod in so many directions and ways so I am able to get the right shot. The camera I will be using is a Canon EOS M.
the lighting set-up
The lighting set-up will be formed in the way of to there will be two lighting leaning over the set, the two light will vary one will be turned off and another one can be turned on, I will also use a stoplight for scenes 2 + 4 , when I am introducing the schemes.
frame rate
I will be using 24frs for this animation so that is 720 shoots in total for the 30 second animation.

slogan/message
the slogan/message I will be using a the end of my animation will be "Knife crime needs to end, find out how you can get involved today", this message is clan and simple and it is easy for the audience to understand, it also leaves the audience thinking about what they are able to do to help and support the schemes

claymation Lego small figures
www: I think the overall all product worked well and it looked realistic, I like. how when use watch it you can. become so invested in it. I enjoyed working with clay because I like how you are able to give your. character a range of so many different emotions, also how you can model the clay and make it into anything you want.
ebi: The overall product. is a little jumpy in places, when moved the model to much to it didn't look completely smooth, I found. the clay a little hard to work with a time such as when the clay would fall apart. and the arm would fall off I found this annoying. |
www: I really like the overall. product of the animation. I like the way you are able to show a story though lego and how simple it yet yet it looks so effective.
ebi : I found how the lego. hard to work with because, I found it hard to make the character walk, when you had move the characters. I also fee like had to take more shots to make. the animation faster, because you had to move the. characters. so much each time. |
www; I enjoyed how simple it was to use the small figures, I also like that I didn't have to kept moving also of them.
ebi: overall, I think it. went badly as the final edit went wrong, and the overall project didn't look. right. |
